Members of the House of Representatives wrote at least $4.2 billion in earmarks – special expenses often attached to spending bills this year. The average Representative received $9.6 million for their own district and interests. The members of the House Appropriations Committee averaged $28.6 million! And the winner is…. Jack Murtha (D.,Pa.) who could reap more than $180 million for his projects. I guess the taxpayers are the big losers!
